Survey on health, impairment and living conditions in Denmark 2012 (SHILD)

Summary

Strengths: The database includes a rather large sample consisting of people with and without different impairments, and their partners and children. The data can be linked to register data from Statistics Denmark and all questions are validated in international or Danish context. Weaknesses: Only the first wave of data have been collected so far.

The collected data covers self-rated impairment, functional ability, work capacity, self-rated mental and physical health, health behaviors (smoking, alcohol, other drugs), participation in various domains of social life, contacts with the public support system; individuals’ background, such as information on work life, income and education, welfare benefits, consumption of health-related goods and services; expectations for the future (health, work capacity, family relations); discrimination, exposure to violence; personality measure (two of the big five personality traits - neuroticism and conscientiousness). Covers questions about discrimination including one question about age discrimination. Furthermore, it is possible to compare personally experienced discrimination across different age groups in order to analyse whether or not they vary.
