Summary

Strengths: The survey is part of the international Johns Hopkins University Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project, which compares the size of the voluntary sector in as many countries as possible. It covers a wide range of types of volunteering, and the same questionnaire was applied in 2004 and 2012.

In 2004, the survey included 63 questions about volunteering and background information. Questions about volunteering covered the following topics: (1) Culture, sports, education and research, health, social area, environment, local community, labour union, advising and legal advice, politics, international activities and religion or church. The survey also went into detail with the number of hours volunteering and the type of work. (2) Monetary gifts (3) Informal help. The 2012 survey additionally includes questions about internet-based voluntary work. The data collection further includes information about voluntary associations.
