In autumn 2016, Forte announced a call for collaborative projects between researchers in Sweden and India. On April 28th, we decided to grant 12.3 million SEK to 5 research projects.
Ageing and health is a prioritised research area in Sweden and many other countries. Today, approximately 11.5 % of the world’s population are aged 60 years or over – and the proportion is increasing. This global challenge involves major changes for working life, healthcare and aged care.
The call ”Swedish-Indian research on ageing and health” was announced in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) in September 2016. The aim for the call is to stimulate interdisciplinary, innovative and close to practice research in the field of ageing and health, through the research now being funded.
A total of 16 applications was received within the call. Of these, four will receive project grants of about 3 million SEK each over three years. One project was granted a network and knowledge exchange grant of 300 000 SEK. Collaborative partners in India will be funded according to the decisions of ICMR.
– Our aim is that this initiative will increase the exchange of knowledge and experience between researchers in Sweden and India – that it will contribute to increased awareness and networking between research groups. We also believe that the research will contribute to an increase in knowledge within the field of ageing and health, that will be valuable in both Sweden and India, says Thomas Jacobsson, Senior Research Officer at Forte.
